Lodi, San Joaquin County
Lodi calls itself the Zinfandel capital of the world, and some of its vineyards hold vines planted more than a century ago. Sandy soil and cool evening breezes from the Delta suit the grape. For decades the town was known for Flame Tokay table grapes instead, a history recalled each September at the Lodi Grape Festival.
